Documentation of Tribal Culture & History
The palliyars are the most important among the tribal commnities in the southern India. They belong to the pre-agricultural history and lived even before agriculture was discovered. The Paliyars belong to hunting and food gathering community who lead a nomadic lifestyle in the western ghats of south tamilnadu. Their population extends from the pazhani hills range to tirunelveli district and are one among the most populated tribal society.
They have rich and unique culture in language, faith, tradition, food practices, education and lifestyle. They are the most peace loving society. The paliyars have traveled around the stretches of the western ghats range and have a wild knowledge of herbs, medicines and coexisting with nature. They lead a life without conflict with nature.
It is alarming that their best life practices and cultural values are vanishing with old generations. Hence it is essential to document their best life practices, history and culture and pass it to future generations. The Paliyars have solutions for the most contemporary problems in our modern lifestyle.
Meiporul Foundation is documenting such traditions with the help of tribal youth thereby they are preserved. We need public support in supporting the basic expenses incurred in documenting such huge history. If you are interested in contributing a small monthly contribution of Rs.1000/-, then it would be of a greatest support in documenting a big history, culture and tradition for future generations.
